This article is from March 2017, but my wife just sent it to me. It sent me into full rage mode. I remember reading it a couple months ago, but I’m still as furious now as then.
Oklahoma State Rep. George Faught argues that rape and incest are the will of God while defending anti-abortion legislation.
First thought– Rep. Faught, doesn’t the Will of God contradict with our supposedly Free Will? This has always bothered me- how the two can coexist.
Faught continues by saying, “One of the things that I campaigned on was to protect life, and I believe life begins at conception.”
Second thought- Faught, what does the Bible say about abortion and when life begins? According to Genesis 2:7, life begins with the first breath.
“Genesis 2:7 is clearest. The first human became a “living being” (nefesh hayah, “a living breath”) when God blew into its nostrils and it started to breathe. Human life begins when you start breathing, biblical writers thought. It ends when you stop. That’s why the Hebrew word often translated “spirit” (ruah) — “life force” might be a better translation — literally means “wind” or “breath.”’
The Patheos article Does Life Begin at Conception? does a fine job of addressing this issue:
“What we need to realize is that a fertilized human ovum has the potential to become a person. That is not the same thing as already being a person. The reason many choose to make conception the cut-off point is because any other is plagued with ambiguity and uncertainty.”
Faught continues, “Well, you know, if you read the Bible, there’s actually a couple circumstances where that happened. The Lord uses all circumstances. I mean, you can go down that path, but it’s a reality unfortunately.”
What is unfortunate is that our nation has lawmakers who cannot keep their personal, religious beliefs (no matter how fucking crazy) to themselves and out of their lawmaking decisions.
When asked if rape and incest were God’s Will, Faught finally said, “You know it’s a great question to ask. And obviously if it happens in someone’s life, it may not be the best thing that ever happened, but — so you’re saying that God is not sovereign with every activity that happens in someone’s life and can’t use anything and everything in someone’s life and I disagree with that.”
Holy Shit, Faught actually said it may not be the best thing that ever happened! What a shit fuck!
